Artistic-technical media education in vocational preparation and vocational orientation: New approaches to promoting digital media skills among young people (MediaArt@Edu)

Objective:
The aim of the project at the Institute for Vocational Education and General Pedagogy (IBP) at KIT is to develop a new concept of digital media education with learning process support that better meets the prerequisites, needs and development perspectives of young people in vocational preparation and orientation than before and contributes to shaping their professional biography. The project aims to develop new concepts and models, test them with young people and students at the Center for Art and Media ZKM and KIT, and provide pedagogical and scientific support and evaluation. Workshops on current areas of digital media design will be held at ZKM and IBP: virtual 3D worlds, games, robotics, light, sound and smart textiles/wearables. The target group of the project are young people in (extracurricular) pre-vocational training measures of the Employment Agency and the youth welfare organization Hardtstiftung e.V. as well as pupils in the career orientation phase. They are to be introduced to media technologies in a creative and playful way.
Tasks:
Development, testing and evaluation of mentoring concepts, pedagogical-scientific learning process support for young people in dealing with digital media, didactic approaches of aesthetic research, education and portfolio methods of self-reflection as well as elements of career biography design and career orientation. The development of curricular modules and workshops for teacher training is planned (e.g. via the Stadtmedienzentrum Karlsruhe).
