Final theses

The final thesis is an important part of the degree course in Engineering Education at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Both the Bachelor's and Master's theses enable students to deal with a technical or didactic topic in depth and to apply the knowledge they have acquired during their studies scientifically.

Bachelor's thesis

The Bachelor's thesis is usually written in the respective professional subject area. It is generally possible to write a thesis outside of the professional specialization, but requires the prior approval of the responsible examination board.

A prerequisite for admission to the Bachelor's thesis module is that students have already successfully completed module examinations amounting to at least 120 credit points (CP).

Registration for the Bachelor's thesis takes place via the relevant KIT faculty of the chosen professional specialization:

  • KIT Faculty of Civil Engineering, Earth and Environmental Sciences (Vocational Specialization Civil Engineering)

  • KIT Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (Vocational Field of Electrical Engineering)

  • KIT Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (Vocational Specialization Metal Technology)

Master's thesis

The Master's thesis is usually written in the field of subject didactics or vocational education. It is possible to complete the thesis outside of these areas, but this must also be approved by the Examination Board.

For admission to the Master's thesis module, students must have successfully completed module examinations amounting to at least 70 credit points (CP).

Registration for the Master's thesis is carried out by the performance coordinator of Engineering Education at the student's request.
