An employee from our department has successfully completed first aid training at KIT and now provides support as a company first aider. She provides rapid assistance in an emergency and actively contributes to safety in everyday working life.

The Vocational Education department welcomes two new student ambassadors: Nils Angermann and Faris Freiherr von Seckendorff. After a personal handover by their predecessor, they will start on April 15 as contact persons for all aspects of studying.

Over 100 participants discussed the changing future of vocational education and training at the AG-BFN symposium in Stuttgart. Under the motto "Future-oriented vocational education and training", the event offered valuable impulses, exchange and new perspectives for science, practice and politics.

KIT's vocational education team was out and about on the running track again: at the half marathon in the Bienwald forest in Kandel, the team enjoyed great weather and a great fun run with around 2,500 participants. And the next goal has already been set: the Baden Marathon in Karlsruhe in the fall!

Vocational education students at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology visited the Karlsruhe Chamber of Crafts' training academy as part of the course "Work-oriented further training". The excursion offered exciting insights into program planning, master craftsman training and practical further training opportunities in the skilled trades.

Two days of strategic exchange at the transfer workshop at the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training in Bonn: together with the InnoVET-PLUS community, we discussed how innovations can be put into practice in the long term. For Lernfabriken@BeruflicheBildung, we are taking away clear impulses for transfer, continuation and stakeholder integration.

At the 2nd advisory board meeting of the InnoVET PLUS - Lernfabriken@BeruflicheBildung project, the partners met at WAFIOS AG in Reutlingen to further develop operator models for learning factories and to design an interface for further education platforms. The next phase is now starting with new offers and concrete implementation steps.

We say goodbye to Yuhang Chen, who has supported our department as a student assistant and study ambassador since August 2024. His time with us ends with the submission of his Master's thesis. We thank him warmly and wish him all the best for the future!

At the end of the Sociology of Work and Industry seminar, the Master's group in Pedagogy visited the KIT Learning Factory "Global Production" with the Vocational Education department. There they experienced a realistic, customizable value chain - a practical laboratory for Industry 4.0 that combines technology and pedagogy and creates synergies for research and teaching.

My interest in this field began somewhat unexpectedly. I first came across it through a term paper my sister had written in Prof. Steib's class. The central question was: Do schools educate us to give us freedom, or to turn us into workers? I found this question surprisingly compelling.

We are pleased to introduce the core team of Vocational Education. Together, we are driving forward the funded InnoVET PLUS project, shaping teaching and supervising students on the Engineering Education course.

On January 23, 2026, a New Year's reception was held in the Department of Vocational Education. School management, teaching staff, internal KIT employees and other interested parties from the degree program were invited. The buffet consisted of a selection of finger food and various drinks were available.
