On February 13, 2026, the excursion to the training academy of the Karlsruhe Chamber of Crafts (HWK) took place.

We would like to thank Ms. Ingrid Lehr Binder, Head of the Education Academy Administration Division (inter-company apprentice training, further education and training, vocational orientation) for the insights she provided and the guided tour of the workshops. And to Marla Herr, specifically from Vocational Orientation and an alumna of KIT Vocational Education, who wrote her final thesis a few years ago with a concept development for vocational orientation in the skilled trades at the HWK and immediately afterwards took on a permanent lecturer position in the context of the Academy of Education. Thank you very much for your support and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

We gained insights into program planning and specific program planning activities. One focus was on the so-called master craftsman training courses, the qualification training of trainers (AdA) as well as the consideration of so-called company-specific further training offers, which are also realized and implemented by the Bildungsakademie. Further training cannot be understood as a monolithic whole - as is sometimes suggested by the (education) policy perspective. Rather, the term refers to different forms of adult learning processes and to divergent functional relationships. The most important forms of work (market) oriented continuing education are in-company continuing education and continuing vocational training. While continuing vocational training tends to refer to a subject relationship with a focus on structuring the life course (labour market and employability), in-company continuing training refers to an organizational relationship with a focus on the reproduction of the organization through personnel (competitiveness).
