ProDI-H - Procrastination in the university context: A program for differential diagnosis and individualized intervention

Procrastination is a widespread phenomenon among students: instead of starting to prepare for an important exam, "important" emails still need to be answered or the apartment needs to be carefully tidied. The phenomenon of procrastination often proves to be an obstacle to efficient and satisfying studies. Accordingly, some of the students affected express the desire to change their own procrastination behavior in a targeted manner.

Compared to other countries, research into procrastination in the university context has been neglected in Germany to date. The "ProDI-H" cooperation project between the universities of Bielefeld and Karlsruhe (KIT) aims to take the first steps towards closing this research gap.

Objective:

The aim of the project is to gain empirically sound knowledge about the phenomenon of procrastination among students. On the basis of this knowledge, a system for diagnosing problematic procrastination behavior will be developed and validated together with the project partners. The benefit-inspired research work will lead to the development and evaluation of individualized interventions to reduce procrastination tendencies. The system contributes to the successful organization of everyday study life and to the reduction of dropouts.
